After I watched this movie I then remembered the Miss USA Pageant had taken place that night so I looked around on the internet to find some highlights and who won. Of course, as there always is in these things, there was a controversial/lolworthy/youtube moment. The not at all lolworthy but very controversial moment this year was when Judge Perez Hilton asked Miss Cali if she felt that other states should follow suite with the four who have now legalized gay marriage. She answered saying a bunch of stuff that didn't make sense but ultimately saying she believe marriage should be between a man and a woman.
Over the last few days this whole thing has been BLOWN up over the media. It's so wrong. People are saying she lost the crown because she was against gay marriage, which MAY be true because a Miss USA should represent EVERYONE, so she may not be the one for the job. See the thing is, she DIDN'T EVEN ANSWER THE QUESTION. She gave her opinion on marriage. She made no reference to what the states should do, which WAS the question. I think simply because she failed to do what she asked she should've lost, which she did, she came in second.
Anyways, I just think this is crazy and people are saying things that are horribly wrong, it's her beliefs and she can have them BUT she's being looked down upon because 1) she didn't answer the question and 2) she was running to be a representative for USA which has tons of gay people and she should represent them and their needs as well.
The whole thing has created another battles so to speak, featuring Miss Cali as Anita Bryant and Perez as a Harvey Milk. Don't get me wrong, Harvey Milk went through much much more and the hate was much higher back then, but on a smaller level, this is what it seems to be turning out as.
Just thought I'd get that out there, bahah. The one person who is annoying me the most in this is Bill O'Reilly. Whatta douchebag, he got a gay author on his show and pretty much tried to run him into the dirt, it literally made me want to throw my laptop across the room.
I think people need to OPEN their minds and hearts. Gay people are equal, they should be allowed to be seen as legally united, wether you want to call it marriage or not, whatever.
That my friends is my rant for today and now I must go type up some yearbook bios and do some homework. :)
peace & love

To be fair, she shares the same opinion with Obama.. and he's President. It seems to be a very grey area, politically and ideologically.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with the homework!
